Real Weddings | Hahee + Daniel | January 11, 2020

With a spark that began in high school, Hahee and Daniel celebrated their love story with a winter wedding day at the Cliff House surrounded by the ones they love most. Hahee said they wanted their wedding to be uniquely them, like a bustling family holiday dinner - casual & intimate.

Joy and love were certainly in the air that day, and we loved every second of it. Hahee and Daniel were kind enough to share a bit of their story with us, along with a few of their favorite memories from the wedding. Enjoy!

From Hahee:

We were set up as dates for junior year homecoming! Dan’s original date, who also happened to be my friend, had to back out and she asked me if I would like to go with him instead. We went to different highschools, so we hadn’t met before we did the good ol’ texas mum and garter exchange for homecoming. We eventually got together before the end of Junior year but not before Dan thought it was a good idea to friendzone me. Yea. That happened. Anyhow, the rest is history. We did long distance throughout college until Dan popped the question in the most perfect way at Nasher Sculpture Center.

Intimate and casual would be the two words that come to mind when we think about the kind of wedding we wanted it to be. There were a lot of “traditional” things we forewent because neither of us really thought they were important. We really wanted it to just be a gathering of loved ones to celebrate together.

We were looking for a venue on the smaller side - we knew our guest list was going to be around 130 and didn’t want a big empty room. We wanted the wedding/reception to feel “packed” and like a bustling family holiday dinner. This was right before COVID-19 - I know, a crowded room is such a concept nowadays. We were making a list of potential venues to visit when Jinny, one of my friends who was a bridesmaid (and did my dessert table - shout out to Detour Doughnuts & Coffee), mentioned the Cliff House. We saw pictures online and even before we made our way to see the place in person, we knew this was it. It was exactly what we were looking for- something light and airy and in Dallas!

Hahee: I was not as nervous as I thought I would be getting ready! There were a lot of emotions leading up to this moment, and I think I was happy the day had finally arrived and just wanted everything to go smoothly.

Daniel: It wasn’t very stressful getting ready during the morning of the wedding day. I was more worried about the ceremony and events after. I wanted to make sure everything went smoothly and that no mishaps occurred.

Hahee: I still remember trying to catch my breath as I walked down the aisle - everything else after that was a blur honestly. There was this moment, though, when we were in the back waiting to get called in for the grand entrance. We were both nervous about doing the first dance so we were practicing our INCREDIBLY SIMPLE steps...there was something beautiful and special about that moment we shared as husband and wife.

Daniel: The dance and worship service were two things that stuck out to me. Even though the dance was simple, I wanted to make it memorable for Hahee since we never really danced before that. Worship was also a special moment as we were celebrating our union for the first time as one.

Hahee: A moment that stuck out to me was when I actually got hit in the face by a ball of flower petals during the ceremony recessional. LOL.

Daniel: I really enjoyed the speeches given by the different parties during the reception. It was just nice to see that side of our friends and family.

Like mentioned either, I would say our day was “intimate” and “casual”. We made the ceremony and reception to be something personal and unique to ourselves.

My first piece of advice for future couples would be to do what YOU want to do and don’t worry too much about what “other people will think”. They can have their own wedding - this is YOURS.

When I think about our wedding planning process, it was such a seamless and wonderful experience with the Cliff House staff. Since day 1, when we had first entered the venue - even before we had agreed to book the place, we were greeted with such warm hospitality. The communication between us (Daniel and I) and the staff (mostly my Event Manager) was prompt and straightforward. There was a moment when the wedding was almost put on hold due to some complications with my mother’s health, but our Event Manager was incredibly understanding/accommodating. I genuinely was not expecting such love from someone who I hadn’t even met in person at the time!! She sent a signed card sending well wishes to my mother and family, which was entirely unexpected and touching. I truly believe this is the standard that Boxwood Hospitality holds all their staff to.

My second piece of advice is that I would highly recommend Boxwood Hospitality and the Cliff House to anyone looking for a venue. My wedding honestly wouldn’t have been the same without them. Thank you to all!!

Thank you, Hahee and Daniel, for sharing these sweet memories with us! We are so thankful to have our little white chapel as the backdrop for your wedding day, and we wish you nothing but the best in years to come. Cheers!
