Real Weddings | Julia + Auggie | July 6, 2019

Last July, we got to be a part of Julia and Auggie’s summer wedding day. It was one filled with color, joy, and a whole lot of love. Their focus was simply on the purpose of the day: being married and starting this new journey together.

Having just celebrated a year of marriage, they relived the details of their day with us and today we get to share all the love with you!

From Julia:

We met in Geometry class on the first day of high school! We started dating right before Christmas break in 2009, and dated alllllll throughout high school and college. We've truly grown up together. When we started college we were long distance for two years, Auggie started at Stephen F. Austin and I started at Texas A&M in College Station. Auggie transferred to A&M right before our junior year in College.

Our hope was for our wedding to be FUN and BRIGHT! Since the Cliff House is so light and white, we were super excited to have really vibrant and colorful summer flowers to make everything pop. Our florals (by Sage Fine Florals) were pretty much the only decor we had because we really wanted them to be the focal point. We also wanted the reception to be really relaxed and feel like a party, so the DJ was really important. Adante from LeForce Entertainment absolutely crushed it and our reception felt like a giant dance party with all of our favorite music and best friends!

Since we were so focused on colorful florals, we were looking for a venue that was really a blank canvas. We also have always loved the Bishop Arts District/Oak Cliff neighborhood and spend a lot of our weekends brunching and shopping in the area, and wanted our venue to be near the part of the city we love most! We were pretty sure we would book the Cliff House before we even visited, and as soon as we walked in for our first tour we just knew! We looked at each other and both were like, "Okay, so, this is it right?" It was the first venue we toured and we didn't even want to look anywhere else!

Julia: My bridesmaids and I booked a really cute Airbnb right down the street that we stayed the night at the night before. As soon as we woke up we had hair and makeup appointments at the Airbnb. I was pretty relaxed the whole day and had so much fun spending time with my best friends, who mostly live in different cities and states. The whole day was pretty calm, until about half an hour before we had to get our stuff together and get to the venue -- that's when the nerves really hit me and I got really stressed out! I really didn't calm back down again until I was standing with Auggie at the altar!

Auggie: I stayed the night before our wedding at what is now our current apartment. My groomsmen and I went to Breadwinners for breakfast before heading back to my apartment to get ready. There wasn't much time needed to get ready and I felt like I spent the next couple of hours pacing back and forth, checking the time, constantly worried that we'd be late. With all my groomsmen being my best friends since high school who knew Julia and I from the beginning, a lot of the time was also spent reminiscing and talking about how we've all been waiting for this day. It was easy to be excited for the evening, having my groomsmen around me and knowing that I would be married by the end of the day, celebrating with all of our friends and family!

Overall, what we remember most was dancing at our reception! We're obviously biased but we think it was the most fun anybody has ever had at a wedding reception! But also, the speeches from the Father of the Bride, the Maid of Honor, and the Best Man were really special. Hearing the people closest to us share funny stories, give us advice, wish us well and essentially cry about how much they love us...definitely a highlight!

During our ceremony, we had my (Julia) Aunt Edye and Uncle Greg read the "Love is patient, love is kind" passage from 1st Corinthians 13. My Aunt Edye is my dad's little sister, and my dad & mom actually read that same passage at Aunt Edye & Uncle Greg's wedding. It was such a special tradition to be a part of, and Auggie and I hope to read those verses at my little sister's wedding one day!

JOY is how we would describe the day! We literally cannot remember a happier day in our lives! The day definitely felt like a blur, but we remember driving away from the wedding with the biggest, cheesiest smiles on our faces laughing the whole way to our hotel. We were reliving funny jokes our groomsmen shared, ridiculous dance moves from family friends, yummy food, and sweet moments for weeks after the wedding. It was absolutely the best day of our lives.

In regards to planning a wedding: don't sweat the small stuff. We didn't have a wedding planner, and we were both a little nervous that things wouldn't come together the way we planned, but it was perfect and better than we could have imagined! We didn't end up having tons of "extras"; we skipped a photo booth, a signature cocktail, choreographed dances, but we didn't end up missing any of it! When you're surrounded by all of your people, you don't need all the extras to have a perfect wedding.

Thank you, Julia and Auggie, for sharing these wedding day details, and for letting us be a part of your celebration. We wish you all the best in years to come. Cheers!
